What am I doing??

I think the best way to describe this project is in sections, so here we go…

What are the Munros?

The Munros are mountains in Scotland over 914m. There are 282 of them overall.

My aim is to take my bike to the summit of each and every one and bike down as much as I possibly can.

How long will it take me?

The plan is for it to take me 70 days. Starting on the 1st of June and ending on the 18th of October. This timing is including days I sadly have to work and less sadly go on holiday, therefore it will take longer than 70 straight days.

Do remind yourself this is if everything goes to plan but Murphy’s Law sadly comes to mind.

What are my motivations

In any situation you must think about intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, this project is no different.

Firstly the intrinsic motivations. They say you die twice, once when you stop breathing and the other when someone says your name for the last time. This has stuck with me throughout my childhood so I have grown up with a need and desire to not only do a Worlds first but have my name remembered. I see this project as a step towards both as it is a huge achievement that will put my name out there.

Extrinsically I want to connect mountain biking with conservation and show that it can in fact become a force for good instead of being seen as a sport that ruins the environment. I want to show people the amazing places biking can take you and how to preserve these places for future users.

What are my end goals?

To have created a professional film that showcases the project that can be broadcasted to anyone and everyone.

To have interviewed people who use Munros, whether for recreation or as work or to help maintain them, to understand how mountain biking can better fit within this area.

To have increased my own following and be able to give good knowledge about which Munros are best to bike and how to best bike them. Alongside this is to build a community that loves to do exactly what I do.

If over the next couple months you wish to buy me a coffee or a pint for my efforts on the Munros please donate that couple quid to Glencoe Mountain Rescue instead. I am supporting them as I want to give back to those who are there to help us when we get stuck in this beautiful landscape. I know a couple memberes personally and I know the money would go much further in their hands than it would in mine! Thank you so much.
